StudentPerks is committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we keep it safe — in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who We Are

StudentPerks is a South African student deals platform. Our Information Officer can be reached at admin@studentperks.co.za.

2. Information We Collect

When you sign up or apply to join StudentPerks, we collect:

• Full name and email address
• Institution name and student number
• Year of study and course
• Student card photo (for verification purposes)
• Referral source (how you heard about us)

We also collect usage data automatically through Google Analytics, including pages visited, time on site, and device type. This data is anonymised and aggregated.

3. Why We Collect It

• To verify that you are a genuine, enrolled South African student
• To grant you access to student discounts and deals
• To send you a sign-in link and account-related emails
• To improve the platform and understand how it is used

4. How We Store Your Data

Your data is stored securely on Supabase (a cloud database provider) with encryption at rest and in transit. Student card photos are stored in a private, access-controlled storage bucket and are only viewable by StudentPerks administrators for verification purposes.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Third-Party Services

• Supabase — database, authentication and file storage
• Google Analytics — anonymised site usage analytics
• Google Workspace / Gmail SMTP — sending transactional emails

Each of these providers operates under their own privacy policies and data processing agreements.

6. How Long We Keep Your Data

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it.

7. Your Rights Under POPIA

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your information
• Object to how we process your information
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

We use session cookies for authentication and analytics cookies via Google Analytics. By using StudentPerks, you consent to these cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect functionality.
